Ramón and Amalia Vargas
Meet the Founders
Considered one of the world´s most prestigious tenors of our days, Ramón Vargas started his musical education at the Cardenal Miranda Art and Music Institute. A few years later he continued his studies at the Viena State Opera, under the guidance of Leo Müller.
Throughout his career, he has performed in some of the most prestigious stages of the world, among them: La Scala of Milan, the State Opera of Vienna, the Covent Garden of London and the Metropolitan Opera House, where he sang Edgardo, opposite June Anderson and substituting Luciano Pavarotti.
Together with his wife Amalia, Ramón is also the creator of Ramón Vargas Foundation, organization dedicated to the community rehabilitation of disabled children and youngsters, to honor the memory of their son Eduardo.
With the music and singing as her great passions, Amalia Vargas was born on July 18th in Mexico City. She started her studies on educational administration at Anahuac University. However, her passion for art was so strong, that she decided to continue studying opera at the National Conservatory of Music.
She met Ramón Vargas in 1984, during a singing course given by the soprano Gilda Cruz Romo in Guadalajara. By November of 1985 she got married to the tenor. They had three sons: Eduardo, Fernando and Rodrigo.
Together with her husband, she created Fundación Ramón Vargas. She is the President of the Foundation Board of Trustees.
